Like many other Digi customers, I had been looking forward to the rumored television service that was scheduled to launch before the end of the year for many months. And I was looking forward to it so much because I imagined it could be something groundbreaking in terms of price and/or offer.
Finally, Digi TV was launched a few days ago, and, after trying it, I have to admit that it did not convince me. Like anyway I was determined to hire a television serviceI have preferred to opt for another alternative that, although it costs me a little more, also offers me much more.
Paying a little more is well worth it
Digi TV has arrived in Spain at a price of 7 euros per month and with the promise of more than 100 channels, both DTT and premium, both local, national and international. But has two important limitations: can only be contracted by Digi fiber customers and is only available at the moment in certain areas of Spain.
In my case, I meet those two requirements, so I tried Digi TV for a few days and I can already tell you that it has not convinced me. It’s not that the service works badly, on the contrary, it runs very smoothly, but I think that what it offers falls short of what it costs.
Digi TV offers many channels, but you can already watch a good handful of them for free on DTT, and the rest, most are also available on Movistar Plus+
By a fee of 7 euros per monthyou have many channels, that is true, but a good handful are free, that is, you can now watch them on DTT without paying anything for it. Of the rest, the vast majority (not all) are also available in Movistar Plus+ (9.99 euros per month) and in Tivify Premium (7.99 euros per month).
Although Tivify Premium includes 200 channels (almost double that of Digi TV), I prefer to pay the 2.99 euros more How much does Movistar Plus+ cost per month to enjoy its entire catalog of on-demand content, its soccer matches and sporting events, its movie premieres and, especially, all Movistar originals.
I lose the ability to sort and delete channels on the grid that Digi does offer, but I gain the option to record and download content to see them another time. The two simultaneous reproductions, live control and access to the last seven days are common on both platforms.
And if you’re wondering about playback quality, Digi doesn’t have 4K channels, it only offers Full HD. The Movistar Plus+ app is never going to be as good as the cable television that Digi offers, but hey, it makes up for it for me. And that without forgetting that Digi TV does not yet have an app for iOS and Apple TVsomething that should have been available since launch.
Definitely, I’ll stick with Movistar Plus+even if you have to pay 2.99 euros more per month. Digi already gives me the savings on my mobile and internet bill. If they lower their television to 4 or 5 euros, maybe I’ll reconsider.
