Grandparents are a treasure, and this Christmas they will more than likely need a new phone. At techopiniones we have several purchasing guides so you can guide yourself when purchasing choosing a phone for an elderly personand for this month of December we want to go a little further.
In this piece, I want to give you my five most personal recommendations about the cell phones I would buy. The priorities when choosing a mobile phone will depend on whether the person to whom we are going to give it can – or wants – use a smartphone or, on the contrary, you just want a phone with network connectivity for calls. You will find options from both worlds reflected in this article.
How to choose a mobile phone for an elderly person
If we are going to give a cell phone to our grandparents, the first thing we have to think about is screen size or, if it is not tactile, the keys. A small mobile phone is a mistake, since it is likely that it will be difficult for them to read the texts and other elements of the panel.
In case that we don’t want to give away a smart phonehe key size and the ease of pressing them is key. In this second case, I also usually make sure that the phone has a configurable SOS key to be able to call an emergency contact immediately.
The battery It is another of the points that I pay most attention to. The most intensive users are used to charge the phone a few times a day But, in the case of our elderly, the ideal is that it should comfortably exceed one day of use and that it should be charged as little as possible.
WhatsApp It is, finally, the barrier in which we divide whether a smartphone is needed or not. If our eldest can chat without problems, we will opt for a simple telephone with which he can both call and send WhatsApp messages. If it is going to be difficult for you to use applications, the bet is a traditional mobile phone.
Best mobiles
If I had to choose between five cell phones to give to my grandparents, it would be quite clear between these models on the list. In it you will find two mobile phones that only allow you to call and receive messages. The differences between this type of phones are minimal, so it is not worth getting too complicated delving into technical specifications and features when purchasing it.
The following three options are current smartphones, but especially suitable for older people. They are easy to set up, have a good balance between screen and battery, and their operating system is user-friendly.
SPC Stella 2
SPC is one of the companies that focuses most on mobile phones for seniors. He SPC Stella 2 is, in my opinion, the most balanced in relation to quality and price. It is a phone with an SOS button, a very large keyboard, and three memories to call favorites.
During the SOS call, you make three rounds of calls to a total of five contacts, maximizing the probability of being answered. It is a clamshell phone, so if our grandparents have never had a smartphone, it is more than likely that they will feel comfortable with this format.
Something that also stands out is that, If the phone has less than 15% battery, it warns by notification to a trusted contact. It will also automatically increase the volume if, after a missed call, the same number calls again. After this call, the volume returns to the level it was at.
The phone charges in its own base, so there is no need to keep an eye on the charging cable constantly. With a price of less than 40 euros, it is one of the best options if you do not need a smartphone.

TCL OneTouch 4022S
In the SPC line, this TCL is another large key phone that charges on its own base. It stands out mainly for being even cheaper than the SPC, with similar specs and a larger battery.
It has an integrated SOS button, although it only calls a person when we press it. It is a simple, economical proposal that does what is fair and necessary.

Xiaomi Redmi 13
He Xiaomi Redmi 13 It is Redmi’s entry range to its family of phones, although it is a step ahead of the C family. I never recommend going for lower spec phones, since over time they are more likely to cause performance problems.
This phone has a great balance between price and specifications, in addition to a 5,030mAh battery that, in a proposal of this type and with basic use, should reach close to two days of use without any problem. It has 33W fast charging, a more than decent camera for some casual photography – 108 megapixel sensor – and a huge 6.79-inch screen.

Samsung Galaxy M15
If we look for equivalence in Samsung to the Xiaomi Redmi 13, we find the new Samsung Galaxy M15 5G. It is a phone with a 6.5-inch screen, a very classic design, and it shines with its 6,000mAh battery.
I especially like about Samsung that the software is very easy to use, and any user quickly becomes familiar with its interface. App for calls, contacts, settings… everything is very visual, and this is especially important when we want to buy a phone for an elderly person.

Motorola Moto G24
And, finally – and for less than 100 euros – we have the Motorola Moto G24. It is the cheapest smartphone on the list, with a 6.56-inch HD+ screen, 5,000mAh battery, and with everything necessary for the most basic use.
It is the cheapest phone because it is the fairest in specifications, but if what you are looking for is the most balanced option at the lowest possible price, it is a phone to take into account.
