Elon Musk is in a legal dispute against ChatGPT leaders and the company OpenAI. There are several controversies that have come to light this year about the relations between the billionaire and Sam Altman and other creators of the aforementioned company.
Among other things, Musk says that They deceived him for years to get his money and he has included that in his lawsuit. The creators of ChatGPT presented to Tesla’s leader that OpenAI was a non-profit foundation, while it is moving towards being a private company.
Well then, although the egos of Elon Musk and those of Mark Zuckerberg, Meta han leader suffered their clashes in the past they have ally in a greater cause. Both are against OpenAI as a private company.
HE just found out that goal requested to Rob BrontaAttorney General of California, a block to the transition of OpenAI to a for-profit entity, since, they allege, it would set a dangerous precedentsince it would encourage other startups to benefit from this status of being foundations until they become profitable and also obtain tax benefits.
What is happening with OpenAI
as rchoose New York Timeslast year, the nonprofit that controls OpenAI tried to fire the company leaderSam Altman. He didn’t make it. Since then, Altman has been trying to wrest control of the company from the nonprofit organization profit.
Under the watchful eye of government regulators, the press and the public, Altman and his Colleagues are working to sever control of the nonprofit and at the same time ensure that the current board receives adequate compensation for the changes, according to four people familiar with the negotiations who have leaked this information to the NYT.
According to documents reviewed by the aforementioned media, the company has promised its investors that it will restructure the organization in the next two years.
Given this, it is worth remembering that Zuckerberg and Musk are at odds. The idea of fighting was even raised (since Musk took over Twitter, now rivals in the social media sector. In fact Meta launched Threads to make more direct competition). But now they have a common rival.
Meta trusts Musk
Meta now wants California Attorney General Rob Bonta to block planned OpenAI transition from a non-profit entity to a for-profit entity. In a letter sent to Bonta’s office, Meta says that OpenAI “should not be allowed to violate the law by taking and reappropriating the assets they built as a charity and using them for huge potential private profits.”
The letter goes so far as to say that Meta believes Elon Musk is “qualified and well positioned to represent the interests of Californians in this matter.” OpenAI started as a nonprofit, but stumbled into commercial success with ChatGPT, which now generates billions of dollars a year in revenue. The words of the letter state:
Although also We urge your office to take direct actionwe believe that Mr. Musk and Ms. Zilis are qualified and well positioned to represent the interests of Californians in this matter.
The executive director Sam Altman has made it clear that the company needs to get rid of its non-profit status of profit to become more attractive to investors and continue financing its ambitions.
Meta argues that OpenAI’s “conduct could have seismic implications for Silicon Valley” and “represent a paradigm shift for technology startups” by spurring “investors launch nonprofits, raise hundreds of millions of dollars in donations tax-free to support research and development, and then assume for-profit status as its technology becomes commercially viable.”
